| Biography |
| This is a survey of the higher and lower criticism to demonstrate the trustworthiness of the Old Testament Texts. |
| In this
course the student will
gain an understanding of the material needed for the study of the Old
Testament, become familiar with its cultural background, consider
questions of criticism and interpretation of the Old Testament, and
receive information regarding its composition and literature. |
| The
objective of this course is to present the general content,
arrangement, and development of the Old Testament Scriptures; to
understand its main themes; to learn about the Old Testament
institutions such as the priesthood and kingship; and to show how the
Old Testament and New Testament outline the redemptive program of God's
Grace. |
| This is an investigative Bible Study focussed on the Old Testament material found throughout the New. We will consider shifts in theological perspective regarding this material, consider some hermeneutical concerns, and ask how the New Testament writers used the Old Testament, all with the purpose to enrich and enlarge our understanding in practical areas. |
| This is a
comprehensive study of
the Old Testament worship practices and instructions with special
emphasis on the priesthood and the Temple/Tabernacle contributions.
Exegetical work in Numbers, Leviticus and the Psalms will be used to
discern themes of worship and occasions instigating worship. |
| This is a
content study of Exodus. Our main concern is not technical but
practical: what the book teaches and shows in the pattern of biblical
revelation. We look at critical or technical matters only as they
influence our comprehension of the book's meaning. |
| This is a
survey of the the book of Leviticus with special attention to content,
composition, and the services of the Holiness Code. The survey stresses
its importance in the Old Testament redemptive program, a fuller
appreciation of the meaning of the sacrificial system, and the
integration of the spiritual ideas of both Testaments with special
regard to the doctrines of salvation and holiness. |
| The course
objecvtives are: to gain an appreciation of the Psalter as an
expression of man's dependence on God and the role of God in daily life
... examine the literary form, theological content, and pastoral
significance ... consider various methods of analysing the Psalms with
a strong preference for the "inductive" method ... consider questions
of interpretation and criticism ... survey the use of the Psalms in the
devotional and liturgical life of the church. |
| The
objective is to better understand the book of Ecclesiastes and its
essential philosophy, to relate its message to the rest of the Bible
and the great theological themes, to consider problems (and solutions)
that seem to appear in the book, and to facilitate the student's study
habits in the use of the basic tools for Old Testament study. |
| This
Seminar is largely exegetical, with attention given to lower and higher
critical matters. |
| This is a
survey of the authorship, date, canonicity, text and critical views of
the book of Zechariah, along with an analysis of its outline and
content. A transcript of the lectures is included with the course
syllabus. |
| This course
presents the task of Scripture exegesis, with particular application to
exegesis of the New Testament working from the Greek text. |

passages, and the influence of the Sermon in the epistles. |

with remarks on the contemporary culture and historical context. |
| An outline
of the Epistle of Hebrews to see what its message is and how it applied
to the early Christian community and applies to us. |
| This course
is a
survey of the growth of Christianity and the development of Christian
ideals, culture, and institutions before the Reformation. It concerns
itself with development and expression and is, therefore, more a study
of people, institutions, and movevments than of doctirne or
teachings although these do emerge in proper sequence but not in any
detailed analysis. |
| This course
examines the history of the Christian Church as well as that of
Christian thought from the Apostolic age to the Reformation. Attention
will be given to the spread of Christianity; the interactions of the
earth church with Judaism and the Roman Empire; the development of
theology and doctrine; the growth of the Roman Church; the ecumenical
councils; the relationship between the Eastern and Western Churches;
the Mediaeval Church; solasticism; and the Renaissance. |
| This course
seeks to place the foundation of the modern church and show how the
present Institutions developed. It demonstrates the intricate workings
of personalities in the church and offers some lessons on the machinery
employed, rightfully or wrongfully, to achieve some ends. It seeks to
give a presentation to the working of God in history and His control,
including methods whereby His will is achieved in the world of men. |
| This course
covers the modern Church age, with special emphasis on American
churches and the ecumenical movement. It includes a sketch of American
Church History; the development of theological liberalism and modern
ecumenism; the balancing rise of revivals, faith missions, para-church
organizations, the charismatic movement, and personality
groupings. |

(1977) |
| This is a
study of the progress of Christian
doctrine through the centuries, as expressed in writings of individual
Christians and church creeds. |
| This course
seeks to show the development of the Christian Institution in the
United States along with offering a modest analysis of its
ecclesiological contributions and particular growth factors. The
revolution tended to disassociate the American churches from the old
world counterparts even where there was no political friction. The
independence and assertiveness that the revolution bred almost
incidentally made the native sons more independent, sometimes
even defiant, of the older order. The ultimate price would be in the
proliferation of church bodies and the ferocious development of an
innumerable number of cults and sectarian bodies. Freedom, as most of
its champions found out, has a peculiar price. |
| The
Biblical Doctrine of the Trinity, Gently Considered. |
| A study of
the ecumenical movement of the twentieth century with special emphasis
on modern unbelief, religious synchretism and inclusivism. Particular
emphasis is paid to biblical principles that apply to these issues in
contemporary ecclesiology. |
| The purpose
of this course is to sketch the history of the Bible in English to show
the importance of the Bile to our culture, the need the church felt for
having it in the language of the people, the difficulties in that
process, and the particular steps involved leading up to the great
availability of the Bible in English to almost all portions of our
civilization. |
| An essay on
John Calvin. |
| This is a
booklet of articles that will build your confidence in the Bible and
help you answer problem questions people ask about it. |
| This is a
survey of the Hebrew language for students who have not studied the
language. The purpose is to familiarize the student with its basic
elements, including knowledge of the alphabet, pronunciation and the
special meanings of grammatical/syntactical forms; and to enable the
student to use Hebrew language tools such as the lexicon, concordance,
etc. |
| This is a survey of the Greek language for students who have not studied the language. Supplemental Material by Dr. Gary S. Shogren (Latin America Mission). The purpose is to familiarize the student with its basic elements, including knowledge of the alphabet, pronunciation and the special meanings of grammatical/syntactical forms; and to enable the student to use Hebrew language tools such as the lexicon, concordance, etc. |

have been learned. It is a survey of reference works that aid in study,
a review of Hebrew grammar and syntax, and helpful remarks on how to
master the language. |

of old testament passages of moderate difficulty. |

The Interdisciplinary Biblical Research Institute is
a
group of Christians who see a desperate need for men and women
convinced
of the complete reliability of the Bible who will:
(1) get training both in
Biblical
studies and in some other academic discipline, and
(2) use this training to help
other Christians deal with the many areas where non-Christian teaching
is so dominant today.
We believe that such trained people can be effective
in removing many stumbling blocks that keep others from the Gospel.

This web site has been developed and
is maintained as a free labor of love by volunteers who believe
that there is an urgent need to make available the lectures and literature that are presented here. Our intent is to allow free downloads of these lectures and literature in single copies for personal use. To this end we have purchased web services and posted as much of this material for download as seems prudent. At present, about 20% of the total available is currently posted. Our desire is to post all of the material, and add much worthy, new material. As web usage shows the value of these postings, we plan to add more material for download. If you desire particular items that are not currently available for download, please contact the webmaster. You can help us, and expand the materials available for download by your purchases, or by making a tax-deductible contribution to IBRI. |

Please return to the main page for Additional IBRI materials.
